What does it mean to be fearless?

Posted on Oct 7th, 2008 by Mitsu : Manifester Mitsu
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 04, 2008:

Being fearless is identifying when your fear springs up, and having the will power and strength to say to it and yourself, "Thanks for sharing, but I'm bigger than any problem".  If you don't have any fear, I wouldn't call you fearless; I'd call you blessed, lucky, i suppose.  But then again, if you never have fear, then you're missing out on one of the most primal and therefore beautiful human emotions.  Just like that sweet & sour deal teaches us: if you don't know pain or darkness or anger, then how can you fully appreciate, let alone deal with, the opposite emotions?

If one doesn't have fear, then one really doesn't know what it means to conquer it.  I think that is being fearless-being able to recognize your fears and being bigger than the majority of them.  "Being" meaning trusting yourself concretely and actually taking action(s) necessary to do what you have or want to do, in spite of your looming fear.

For me, I'm learning to spark that new (or perhaps dormant) courageous voice in my head when fear rattles my whole being.  But creating that voice and acknowledging that hey, you might actually be BIGGER than this thing you fear so much, is only the first step.  I find myself meekly admitting this new brave existance in my head and body, welcoming it with the same unsteady energy we all have while watching infomercials late at night; hey, this is new, it appears to be genuinely useful and worth buying into... but it's late and I don't know if I should make such a rash decision/change in my life.  Perhaps i should just stick to my rusty hedge clippers, instead of buying this stainless steel Hedge Hexer...

Like all new thought patterns, it can get some getting getting used to, and I think a lot of us run back to our old habits, just becase we've been doing them for so long and it's what we know.  Hey, whaddya know, here you can also incorporate being fearless!
